Be Yourself.

"Make the most of yourself, for that is all there is of you."

-Ralph Waldo Emerson

This is my advice for the day, just be yourself. Several of you might know that one person
who follows everything you do, refusing to be their own person.

I hate those people.

I guess it's because I'm the type of person who is so dead set on being myself, being independent from other people that I refuse to change myself to fit with someone else.
If you don't like me the way I am, whatever. Your freaking loss.

But in every group of people there's always someone who just has to do what everyone else is doing. Who can't go anywhere alone. Who does everything you do. And that is SO annoying, especially if you're the person they follow all the time.

You just want to take that person and shake them, yelling at them "JUST BE YOUR OWN PERSON!" but you're too polite to do that. Too passive-aggressive.

There's nothing you can really do about this situation either. How do you make them stop being what everyone else wants them to be? I have no idea.

I found this article on how to be yourself.

Maybe you should introduce your follower to this article.
Here's just an excerpt.
Everyone is different, the only problem is, people are so image-concerned that they pretend to be something they're not. It shouldn't be that way. People should be individuals, with their own thoughts and emotions, and they shouldn't fake it just to be accepted by their peers. You know better, I assume, or else you wouldn't be reading this. Outcasts, freaks, and nerds are the ones that will reach the farthest in the future, so forget childish desires of acceptance and just let go. If you've always felt different, like you never fit in, it's time to own it.

It sounds good right? I think so. People just need to grow up (grow a pair) and get their own lives. Just being honest.

Late night ramblings

It seems every time I blog, it's always around midnight. I have no reason for this. It's just because.

I guess this is the time where I actually get to sit down and think about things. Contemplate life, if you will.

I really don't contemplate life, it just sounds fun. I should really think about what I'm going to write before I actually write it, but that just sounds silly. Who does that?

Obviously not me. Otherwise I wouldn't be rambling on like this. But as the title suggests, this is my late night rambling.

So I guess I've been thinking a lot about what has happened in Japan.

In case you haven't heard, I'll sum it up for you..

+

=

And it has killed thousands of people. Millions and millions of dollars in damage. They're on the verge of having a nuclear disaster. How f-ing scary is that? I'm sorry, but holy crap.

It just get thinking (and I know this probably sounds selfish) but what if that happened here?! I know I'm basically safe from any tsunami/hurricane/ocean issues, but still. Everyone says that Japan will recover because it's such a well-developed country. So what? So what they're well-developed, that doesn't mean we shouldn't help them.

People keep comparing it to Haiti, everyone gave a crap-ton of money/aid to them, but what have we done for Japan.

Nothing.

Well, not nothing exactly, but compared to Haiti? Yeah, basically nothing. Now I'm a hypocrite, because I don't donate money. But I can't. You have to have money to donate money. But I donate my prayers and my thoughts.

I just think this is some sort of sign for the people of Earth. Stop f-ing up the planet! If I were God, I would do this kind of stuff too. Oh my ME (GOD) people, I gave you this planet to live on now you're freaking screwing the whole thing up. Seriously, get your heads on straight or worse things are to come.

So do I believe in the end of the world? Probably not in 2012, but yeah I do. I think if we keep treating Earth the way we are, stripping it of natural resources and killing trees and polluting the air and the water, then we will all die out eventually. Again, I'm a hypocrite because I drive a gas-guzzling car and I don't recycle sometimes, but I still have the common sense not to stupid stuff like liter or smoke or anything that can harm the Earth in an intentional way.

All that bs about the world ending in 2012 is just dumb. So what the Mayan calender only goes until December something. Maybe this happened.

You don't know, you weren't there!

Some guy was chiseling away at the calender and he's like "oh crap, I ran out of room."

The other guy's like "pssh, don't worry about it. It'll all work out."

Then when we all discover it, everyone's all freaked out.

"OH MY GOD THE CALENDER ONLY GOES UNTIL DECEMBER 2012! WE'RE ALL GONNA DIE"

When in actuality, they just ran out of room on the stone tablet they were using. Problem solved.

So I was thinking about something random, yet again. There was a tsunami right? So, what happened to the things in the ocean that the wave left on the coast? Like.. for instance:

Now these things live off the coast of Japan. Can you imagine this giant jellyfish on your door step?! What in the hell would you do? A) I'd freak because I'm terrified of jellyfish B) I'd make my husband/brother/nephew/some other man to take care of it. That's what they're there for right? :)

Anyway, that's all I'm thinking about right now. Oh and the future, but I've blogged enough about that. I'll probably talk more about that when the time comes (graduation). I'll probably get all sappy and thoughtful. Or many not. Whatever.

Holy I've been gone forever Batman!

Shocking as it is, I am not dead.
I've just been... lazy I guess it the right word.
Or just forgetful. Whichever you choose.

It is currently 12:23 a.m. and I am still awake.
Why? I have no idea. I should be asleep.
I have things to do tomorrow.

But here's the thing.
I DON'T CARE!
This must be that thing.. what's it called?
Oh yes, senioritis.
I have it. Bad.

I seem to have given up on anything school related.
And I don't seem to mind.
Not one bit.

And the scary thing is I have no idea
About what I'm doing after college.
I have no job offers/applications.
I really don't know what's happening after May 29th.

There is a strong possibility that it could take
me back to Sumner, to my bedroom that
is still covered with high school memories.
Life is tenuous and doubtful.

Unpredictable and fragile.
Yet my thoughts of the future
are limited to next week's episode
of Glee.

This wasn't supposed to happen.
I already have worry lines at 22.
I think I found a gray hair on my head.
My brain is only thinking of things that I'm failing at.

Things that I have no control over.
Do you know how much it sucks,
Not having complete control over your life?

So I sit in computer chair,
downing Girl Scout cookies and
sipping chocolate milk
trying to think of solutions for this confusing life of mine.

So far, I've found that I lack the ambition to accomplish anything.
Nothing at all.
Excepting blogging about my misfortunes.
I always have time for that.

Look, senioritis was in Time Magazine
http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,1191831,00.html

And I just really like Get Fuzzy. It always makes me laugh.

"Googling" yourself

Have you done it? Be honest now.
I have.

"Morgan Bergmann"
The first page is pretty much all me. Linked In, Twitter, Facebook, Google, Carbon made, Twitvid.. wow, I should get a life..

Then I found this website that gives me the creeps. http://www.wajabu.com/Morgan-Bergmann.html It searches all social networks and builds a profile on you. Seriously, not cool.

Of course, I searched for Images of myself too. The first one is my Facebook profile picture. The others.. not so much.

I don't know any of these people. At all. What's with the wedding dress? Who's the dude?

I am in no way related to this woman. Who are you?

This is a freaking coat!

The Internet is amazing.. and weird at the same time.

2011, A New Beginning

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Welcome to 2011, the year of my college graduation. The last full year before the end of the world (2012 and everything). In the words of Oprah, "Cheers to a new year and another chance for us to get it right."

I wanted to update you on what happened to my grandma. Unfortunately, she passed away on December 19th. It was pretty rough on my whole family. Her funeral was Thursday, two days before Christmas. I cried, which was to be expected. My five year old cousin was in tears throughout the funeral, which just made it worse for me. She's so young and it's hard for her to understand why Grandma isn't coming back.

I think I cried more for my grandpa and aunt than my grandma. I've come to terms with her death, but I feel so bad for them. They lived with her and were the closest to her. Now they're lost without her. My grandpa has never paid bills. After her death, he wrote a check to the city he lived in. Now who is going to cash that Grandpa? The mayor? All joking aside, I know my grandma is in a better place, mostly fishing with my aunt in heaven. I wonder how many fishing poles they've lost so far.

Christmas was different this year. On the one hand, no one was really in the mood since my grandma had just passed away. But on the other hand, we sort of hand Christmas in shifts for the first time ever. I guess that's what happens when people grow up and have families. Well, this girl has not grown up yet nor does she plan on having a family ANY time soon. Anyway, I got a Wii which was really not expected. I also got a pair of jeans, a sweater, an iHome, a fleece jacket thing, a jewelry tree, a Maurices gift card (which I am spending on Wednesday) and a DVD. I had a pretty good year.

People are always asking what I want to do before I die, my bucket list for instance. Well, one of the things on my list it to be in Times Square in NYC on New Year's Eve. How awesome would that be?

Unfortunately, I did not spend my New Year's Even at this place. I went to a party that my sister had. Whoa, quite the party. This was my first official I'm-going-to-celebrate-as-an-actual-adult NYE. But I didn't drink much because my friend brought her jerk of a boyfriend, creating unneeded drama. The Cliffnotes version? I almost punched the guy in the face. Crazy right? I totally know this.

On an extremely positive note, I'm going to Chicago this weekend! A couple of months ago, I was looking at my favorite band's website, Shinedown, and noticed they were going to be doing a concert in Chicago, and I looked at ticket prices on another website. I noticed that there were tickets available for Wicked (http://www.wickedthemusical.com/) which I have always wanted to see. One thing led to another and my two best friends and I were going!

Now, the time is here. And I couldn't be more excited. I've never been to Chicago and it should be a great time.

I'm currently working on a project. I'm putting four years of college pictures together to make a nice DVD. Maybe I'll give them to my friends are presents? Oh, that's a good idea. Go me. But yes, it's crazy to think that I will be done with college soon. But I'm excited for the future.

Like I said, this is 2011 - A New Beginning. I'm graduating, starting over. I'm taking this thought and I'm going to make it last. It's only four days into the year and I've had lots of people ask me what my New Year's resolution(s) is/are. Well, let me think about it.
1. Learn to manage my money. Right now, I'm really bad at it.
2. Don't move in with parents after graduation (okay so I don't know if this is a resolution or a goal or what, but I definitely want to follow through with it)
3. Create and stick to a regular work out schedule.
4. Try new foods
5. I'm also going to try Project 365, taking a picture every day. We'll see how it goes. I might post them here. I might post them on Fliker. I haven't decided.
Those sound good to me. Hopefully I'll stick to them.

I must depart now, but I just wanted to update my dear blog about my life. I'll be more witty and clever next time. I hope.

life isn't always what you expect

Today marked the first official day of my break. I was going to spend it Christmas shopping, since its next week and all. Sadly.l, there was a change of plans. My Grandma almost died today. Yeah, scary stuff. She's still not awake from her coma but they are positive she will recover eventually.
I've never seen grown men like my dad and grandpa cry before. That was the worst part.
I was there for six or seven hours, just waiting. Finally my mom and I left because I was exhausted. I'm hoping and praying for my grandma.
In good news, I got my dream phone today - the LG mesmerize. I am in love!

Mid-Life Crisis.. of sorts

For those of you that don't know, I am a journalism major. I've had that major going on two years now, I officially started it the end of my sophomore year (because they forced me to find a major).

I feel like I'm one of those people that have hard time finding one specific thing I want to do with the rest of my life, you know?

Recently I went through, as the title suggests, a mid-life crisis of sorts. Hopefully I'll live past the age of 44 so this won't be "mid-life" but you get my drift.

I just woke up one morning and thought, "Ugh, I don't want to be a journalist." Seriously, I don't want to. I never really wanted to anyway, I just sort of did it because I had to do something.

And now, here I am, a senior in college and I hate my major. Yeah, that's not good and I know that. Okay, I don't hate it. I just don't love it. I feel that college is supposed to help you figure out your life. Instead, mine just screwed me up. I don't know what I want anymore. Well, that's not true.

It's been my dream since I was little to do something with books, whether it was to write them or edit them or whatever. I want to be a book publisher. I want to be able to be able to find those stories that stick out to me and help them reach people. "Touch people through the written word" if you will.

But now, I'm just lost. I can't seem to find the path I'm supposed to be on. This man is me. I feel like I'm standing at an crossroads and I don't know which way to go.

There are all these signs telling me to go this way, go that way. But where does it all lead?

I want someone to sit me down and say "Morgan, now this is what you want to do with your life and this is how we're going to make it happen. Just sit back and let us do all the work." I would agree and be on my way to a life that I knew I would enjoy.

Sadly, I know life does not work like that (no matter how much I wish it would). I can keep hoping and praying that it will all work out or I guess I could do something about it. But what, is my question.
I just don't want to try something and fail at it. I hate failing, seriously. Yes, I understand we all do it, but still, it kind of sucks.

I just don't want to fail and end up working a job I hate. I want to find myself. My management professor, Ewest, said that in order to be happy, you need to find a job that fits you, helps you develop as a person. Don't take it for the money, take it because you like it.

I think I like this man. I need to talk to him some more. He's smart.

No matter what, I know that I don't want to be in a place that isn't right for me. I'll look and try other jobs out, but I know when it's not right. You just know these things. You know when you're unhappy.

I suppose that's enough of my late-night ramblings for one night.

One thing I know for sure: I don't want to end up here, in the middle of nowhere. No one is around for miles.

That would just get lonely.

Not until we are lost do we begin to understand ourselves.  -Henry David Thoreau
